Provide real information security. Most IT support shops say that they provide cybersecurity services. However, when you dig deeper, few of them have Certified Information Systems Security Professions (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditors (CISA), or staff with decades of experience improving security for governments, Fortune 50 companies, and innovative Silicon Valley companies.
Those that do typically use cookie-cutter approaches and compliance checklists or by-the-book security principles. The truth is that compliance and security maxims do not provide real security. However, unlike many, we're able to quickly correct course to make sure that how we work and where we work reflects what we care about. This is why we shifted from four-day workweeks to flex time, have holiday celebrations throughout the year, and use innovative tools. Broad exposure and mentorship
Your first few months at ThreeShield might feel like a fire hose. You won't be stuck in a dark room watching a SEIM like other SOC and NOC jobs. Instead, you'll gain exposure and mentorship around advanced information security and in-depth configurations for Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, various endpoint detection and response platforms, various firewalls, Azure, AWS, and the latest in cloud protection. We encourage regular professional development, and you'll be expected to obtain CISSP and CISA credentials as soon as you qualify. This seems like a lot, but you'll have a great team to support you along with experts who have worked in cybersecurity for everything from bitumen mines to rockets.
Process improvement and empowerment
You'll be part of the process to reduce alerts through automated responses and proactive configuration. Our checklists even include an “axe sharpening” section to make sure that we can record and share ways to improve our processes like the lumberjack who took an hour off each day to sharpen his axe and cut more trees than his colleague who worked non-stop.
Instead of just responding to reactionary support requests, you'll be part of the process to improve reliability and proactively address the underlying causes for requests.
This is one of the benefits of working in a small and nimble team that is constantly focused on making our jobs easier, more productive, and more fun. The side benefit is that our clients enjoy more reliable systems and don't have to call in for as many routine support requests.
Flexible work environment We have some set coverage requirements. However, our Thursdays and Fridays tend to be quiet. As such, we have flex time on these days coupled with on-call opportunities. This allows us to enjoy beautiful days, spend time with our families and friends, go shopping, and take care of our homes. We don't believe in artificially forcing unnecessary work hours.
Home Internet Most of our team members work from home, so we pay for employee Internet bills as a tax-free* benefit. *Employees are responsible for calculating any personal use of their Internet bill for tax purposes
Ongoing training, personal growth, and Education Spending Account Cybersecurity is always evolving. Successful cybersecurity experts need to be excited to learn new things. ThreeShield has cut out the paperwork for training and certifications. After three months of formal and on-the-job training, we give our team members a credit card to pay for training on topics that interests them.
In addition to your education spending account, you'll also receive standard training to keep you current on standards like PCI, emerging best practices, top vulnerabilities, and vendor-specific training on firewalls, endpoint protection, hypervisors, cloud services, etc.
One of the consequences of our combination of self-directed and standard learning is that members of our team have developed skills and grown professionally in different areas. This has been great for the organization because we organically build subject-matter experts; it's also great for us as individuals because we can grow and learn in ways that we find individually fulfilling.
Telecommuting Wasting hundreds of dollars a month and hours per day on commuting isn't worth it. Although ThreeShield employees must live and work in Canada for data residency, police background checks, and security purposes, most of us work from home most days with limited client and office visits.
